Mark Standley is a guitarist and songwriter and, notably, a co-founder of the original V2 in 1976.
Post-V2, Mark continued performing and collaborating with other artists, evolving his punk-era creativity into different sounds and formats. At various times, he has played with acts including Tricky, The Glitter Band, The Drones and Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
He is currently producing and playing guitar for Berlin-based bands PLeaSureDomE and SisterButterFly.
PLeaSureDomE, formed in Berlin by Mark in 2013, is well known across Germany and Europe for its mix of glam rock, punk and alternative classics, with a stylised stage presence combining androgynous glam aesthetics with rock performance.
Lo Siri, originally from Stockholm, Sweden, is a singer, percussionist and performer with PLeaSureDomE.
Lena Lonley is a well-known songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in Berlin’s vibrant underground and alternative music scene. As well as performing her own songs and compositions, she has also added her considerable experience as an instrumentalist to bands such as Sigue Sigue Sputnik, PLeaSureDomE and SisterButterFly.
How It All Came Together
“The first person Stan contacted about the Guest List project was longstanding friend and founding member of V2, Mark Standley.
Stan explained that we were going to recruit guests to record with us — either with them contributing tracks, or recording new ones written by us.
Mark was immediately on board with the concept and offered Stan a track he’d worked on with members of his Berlin-based band, Pompeii Dog — a brilliant reimagining of ‘Media Control’, an early V2 track he’d co-written with David Wilks.
The track features Mark’s trademark incendiary guitar work and atmospheric synths, along with Lena Lonley on bass and Lo Siri on vocals.
Martin’s drums were recorded at Red Wall Studio in Bury, and I added some lead guitar in — where else? — my garage.
The track also reunites Mark and Martin recording together for the first time in over 40 years.”
