Eddie Mooney is a singer, bassist and songwriter, best known for his work in punk, new wave and pop-rock bands from the 1970s onward.

In 1978, his band Eddie Mooney & The Grave signed to independent label TJM Records, their first release being the bizarre ‘I Bought Three Eggs’ single. Frequently played by BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, it helped the track attain cult status.

From 1989 to 2007, Eddie toured the UK, Europe and America with The Dakotas, as well as recording several albums with the band.

Since 2008, Eddie has been the lead vocalist and bass player of legendary 1960s band The Fortunes, chalking up performances across the globe.

Mike Rowbottom is best known for his role as guitarist and vocalist in Eddie Mooney & The Grave.

Following a long hiatus, the group reformed in 2019, with Rowbottom again on guitar alongside Eddie Mooney and new members Rick Medlock and Malte Buhr, releasing a string of digital and vinyl singles along the way.

“A bit of a departure, this one…

V2 goes pop!

The inspiration for the song came about when Stan and I were reminiscing about our early days rehearsing at TJM Studios and recording on Tony Davidson’s TJM label.

I came up with the tune, while Stan wrote most of the lyrics. Once they were finished, Stan decided there was only one man who could sing it — cue Eddie!

Eddie loved it and asked if it could be a vehicle for Eddie Mooney & The Grave. Not only that, but Eddie also wanted to produce the track.

How could we refuse?

Martin’s drums were recorded at Red Wall Studio in Bury, Liam’s piano at The Ramp in Horwich, while my guitars were recorded in my kitchen under Ed Jones’s watchful eye.

This track also features my first recorded use of a wah-wah pedal — what took me so long?

Eddie and Mike then recorded vocals, bass, guitar parts and handclaps at Eddie’s house, where Eddie also produced, mixed and mastered the final track.

Another one in the can — the album was complete!”
